On all outward appearances, this tree looked healthy—but the bottom part of the trunk was completely hollow and the roots were severely compromised as well. However, we were still able to salvage most of the trunk for lumber, made a large pile of mulch, and also cut and split an amazing amount of firewood from this tree.
